Requirements for AATS Participation in International Educational Programs

As recommended by the Education and International Advisory Committees, the Council considers requests for AATS participation in international educational programs. These collaborations may include but are not limited to the selection of AATS speakers, joint programs/courses, exporting of an AATS program/course, or online education modules. Those interested in a formal collaboration are asked to please review the following minimum requirements for international education collaborations and submit your request to:

 AATS Speakers

  • Sponsoring group should be either a professional society and/or institution
  • Request should include:
    • Draft program (if available), including specific description of topics and number of speakers required
    • Description of meeting: Title/Date/Location of Event/Sponsoring Organization(s)
    • Description of the need for expert faculty and education in cardiothoracic surgery; educational value and relevance to attendees
    • Confirmation of business class travel or unrestricted coach travel, hotel accommodations, and meeting registration for all AATS faculty

 Joint Program/Course with AATS

  • Sponsoring group should be either a professional society and/or institution
  • Request should include:
    • Description of the need for expert faculty and education in cardiothoracic surgery, as well as specific description of topics and number of speakers required
    • Description of meeting: Title/Date/Location of Event/Sponsoring Organization(s)
    • Confirmation of business class travel, hotel accommodations, and meeting registration for all AATS identified faculty
    • Confirmation that the sponsoring institution will be responsible for the overall management of the program
    • Proposed Budget
    • Summary of anticipated/past meeting attendance, including number of surgeons/MDs, allied health and demographics
  • At least one AATS Representative will serve on the Program Committee to develop and approve final program
  • AATS will provide marketing assistance, including blast emails, mailing labels, distributing program literature at all AATS events and co-sponsored events, and coordinating advertising space in the association’s publications, in the AATS Educational Newsletter, and on its website.

 

Export of AATS Programs (ie. PG Courses and Stand Alone Courses)

  • Partner should be either a professional society, institution, and/or recognized CME provider
  • AATS names/approves North American Program Director and Host Director to oversee program development and management of PG Courses
  • Program must be in a location where there is a demonstrable need for expert faculty and educational content in cardiothoracic surgery, technology and techniques
  • Request must include:
    • Description of the need for expert faculty and education in cardiothoracic surgery, as well as specific description of topics and number of speakers required
    • Description of meeting: Title/Date/Location of Event/Partnering Organization(s)
    • Identify organization responsible for the overall management of the program. Requests should demonstrate local resources and show evidence of commitment from local organization/affiliated institution.
    • Summary of anticipated meeting attendance, including number of surgeons/MDs, allied health and demographics
    • Budget, including business class travel, hotel accommodations and registration for all AATS speakers
  • AATS will provide marketing assistance, including blast emails, mailing labels, distributing program literature at all AATS events and co-sponsored events, and coordinating advertising space in the association’s publications, in the AATS Educational Newsletter, and on its website.
