2017 Social Events and Tours
Thoralf S. Sundt, and the AATS Centennial Committee have organized an engaging social program for the AATS Centennial. There will be a social event or tour that offers something special for everyone.
*Pre-registration for social events and tours are required.
*Tours require a minimum number of participants. All tours will depart from the Hynes Convention Center.
AATS CENTENNIAL KICK-OFF RECEPTION
Skywalk Observatory, Top of the Prudential Tower

Cost: $20 per person. All registered attendees and exhibitors are welcome to buy tickets to attend.
Come celebrate with colleagues and leaders of the AATS at the Centennial Kick-Off Reception which will be held at the Skywalk Observatory, Boston’s only sky-high vantage point for sweeping 360 degree views of Greater Boston and beyond. Views from the Skywalk include Fenway Park, Back Bay, the Charles River and Boston Harbor. Come network with colleagues as they kick-off this historic meeting in Boston and enjoy passed beverages and hors d’oeuvres.
The Skywalk Observatory is located at the top of the Prudential Center Tower (adjacent to the Hynes Convention Center).

Admission to this event is complimentary to all registered attendees and exhibitors of both the AATS and AmSECT meetings. Join the AATS and AmSECT, for the official open to this year’s meeting. Visit with valued exhibitors and supporters in the Exhibition Hall where you will learn cutting edge techniques, and discover groundbreaking new products while networking with other attendees. In celebration of the Centennial for AATS, many exhibits will include historic artifacts in the field of cardiothoracic surgery for all to see. The AATS and AmSECT Exhibition offers a number of exciting learning opportunities:
- AATS Mini Theaters- featuring “Deep Dive” presentations of top abstracts from this year’s Annual Meeting as well as product demonstrations by from industry partners.
- AATS Learning Center- view innovative surgical procedures as well as webcasts from other AATS events such as the Aortic and Mitral Conclave meetings.
- AmSECT Poster Presentations
- AATS Resident Poster Competition
- The Perioperative/Team-Based Care Poster Competition- come learn about successful and innovative approaches in the management of the cardiothoracic patient.
AATS CENTENNIAL GALA

Cost: AATS Member Price - $250 per ticket ($500 per couple) / Non- Member Price- $350 per ticket ($700 per couple)
The Celebration continues on Monday, May 1st at the once in a lifetime AATS Centennial Gala, which will be held at the famed Wang Theater. This black tie affair will include a cocktail reception, sit-down four-course dinner on the stage, and performances from local musicians representing prestigious Boston institutions.
During this historic evening, the documentary film “In the Beginning” will be unveiled which features an in-depth look at the formative years and challenges faced in cardiothoracic surgery and also includes interviews with Past Presidents and members of the Centennial Committee. This is truly an event not to be missed.
Enjoy a night of networking, premieres, performances, and dinner. Buses depart from all meeting hotels (Sheraton, Marriott and Westin) at 5:45 PM.
ITALIAN GASTRONOMY NORTH END MARKET TOUR

You will be transported to the North End to spend the afternoon with one of Boston’s greatest epicurean resources, Michele Topor. She will whisk your group away to both clandestine and conspicuous culinary landmarks, transforming guests into a connoisseur of the finest Italian fare. Heads will be spinning and bellies full, for this tour is a culinary dynamo! Topor, is a certified chef and instructor; a living, breathing, (and definitely) eating gastronomic sage. A total of six stores will be visited including a pastry shop, coffee/spice store, greengrocer, salumeria (deli), and a liquor store.
A VISIT TO THE ISABELLA STEWART GARDNER MUSEUM

You will travel by private motor coach to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. “Legend has it that upon the Museum’s opening on New Year’s Day 1903; Isabella Gardner served her guests champagne and doughnuts.” Today each guest will be given a small bag of freshly baked donuts along with a mini can of champagne to mirror the very first evening the museum was open.
For decades, Bostonians followed newspaper accounts chronicling the globe-trotting exploits and extensive art collecting of one of the city’s most iconoclastic characters, Isabella Stewart Gardner (1840-1924). Gardner and her husband amassed over 2,500 works of art spanning more than thirty centuries, which now reside inside her former home, a lavish Italianate villa known as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
Guided by a private docent, you will view the Gardner’s’ compilation of tapestries, exquisite antique furniture, and famous collections while hearing wonderful anecdotes about Mrs. Gardner’s sophisticated and eclectic life and the famous heist. Guests will be able to explore the museum on their own after the tour and visit the newly completed wing that shows a great contrast to the ornate villa.
BEACON HILL CIRCLE “BEHIND THE BRAHMIN DOORS”

You will travel by motor coach to Beacon Hill where they will be met by their guide for the morning tour. Enjoy exclusive access into three private homes on Beacon Hill, a 19th century residential neighborhood north of the Boston Common and Public Gardens. Get a glimpse behind the unassuming doors of perhaps Boston Brahmins or other city Luminaries and into the lavish living spaces.
