Friday, October 12, Sugical Suite Session: In this hands-on course, participants will learn the various techniques for reconstruction of large chest wall defects after resection. Other highlights of the course include stabilization of rib and sternal fractures using the most current reconstruction systems and minimally invasive repair of adult pectus excavatum defects. At the end of this course, participants should be able to independently design and perform reconstruction of the chest wall for various indications.

Registration includes both Friday and Saturday Surgical Suite Sessions. The objective of the course is to provide an in-depth review of the evolving role of APPs in Thoracic Surgery, with an emphasis on all aspects of perioperative care including current surgical techniques in bedside procedures. This session will provide a hands-on experience in performing: bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, insertion and removal of various types of chest tubes- tunneled vs non-tunneled, as well as, the use of ultrasonography for locating pleural and pericardial effusions. We will discuss the establishment and management of an independent APP Thoracic Surgery Consult Service and its incorporation to surgical practices.
